sA promising new railway tourism product is set to launch in Central Vietnam, offering travelers a relaxing yet culturally rich and scenic journey. It is the Hue – Phong Nha Tourist Train – a new highlight for tourism in the Northern Central region.According to the project developed by Vietnam Railways and recently agreed upon with the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province, the route is scheduled to officially operate from September 1, 2026. This development builds on the success of the Hue – Da Nang tourist train, aiming to create a distinctive railway tourism product that connects the region’s outstanding cultural and historical heritage sites.
Unique Design, Multi-Layered Experiences
The train will consist of 7 carriages designed with an experiential concept, featuring:
- Traditional art performance spaces
- Local specialty culinary areas
- OCOP product exhibition booths
- Cultural introduction zones showcasing regional heritage
The journey spans approximately 190 km, passing through Hue, Dong Ha, My Trach, Dong Hoi, and Tho Loc stations, with a travel time of about 4 hours 30 minutes. Ticket prices are expected to start from 360,000 VND per person.
One Journey, Multiple Heritage Sites
More than just transportation, the train serves as a “bridge” allowing visitors to easily explore a series of famous destinations:
- The Complex of Hue Monuments (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage)
- Quang Tri Citadel and Vinh Moc Tunnels
- Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (UNESCO World Natural Heritage)
The “One Journey – Multiple Experiences” model will be implemented comprehensively, seamlessly connecting railway transport with tour services, accommodation, sightseeing, and shuttle transfers to create complete travel packages for visitors.
Design Rich in Heritage Identity
Participants at the working meeting proposed that the train should have a distinctive identity, incorporating the characteristic yellow-brown tones of the Imperial Citadel of Hue, the green hues of Phong Nha – Ke Bang, and images representing Quang Tri – the land of heroes and peace. Onboard content will tell the story of history, culture, and development aspirations through the region’s iconic heritage sites and landmarks.
